Hertz to Rpm
An instant hertz-to-rpm converter, with the formula and a reference table below.
| Hertz | Rpm |
|---|---|
| 1 Hz | 60 rpm |
| 2 Hz | 120 rpm |
| 3 Hz | 180 rpm |
| 5 Hz | 300 rpm |
| 10 Hz | 600 rpm |
| 25 Hz | 1500 rpm |
| 50 Hz | 3000 rpm |
| 100 Hz | 6000 rpm |
How to use
- Enter a value in the Hertz field.
- The Rpm figure appears immediately — no button to press.
- Typing in the Rpm field converts back to Hertz the same way.
- Use the reference table for the values that come up most often.
Hertz to Rpm formula
To convert hertz to rpm, multiply by 60.
rpm = Hz × 60
Put another way, one hertz is exactly 60 rpm.
Why this factor: the hertz and the revolution per minute are both defined against the hertz, so dividing one definition by the other gives 60 directly. Both definitions are set out in full below.
To go the other way, divide by 60 — or use the Rpm to Hertz converter, which is the same calculation reversed.
Worked example
Take 60 Hz and multiply by the factor 60: the result is 3600 rpm.
60 Hz × 60 = 3600 rpm
The converter above does this for any value you type, in either direction.
What is a hertz?
The hertz is the SI unit of frequency — one cycle per second.
Definition: Defined as one reciprocal second (s⁻¹). Named after Heinrich Hertz.
Where it is used: Mains electricity (50 or 60 Hz), audio frequencies, and display refresh rates.
What is a revolution per minute?
Revolutions per minute measures rotational speed as complete turns each minute.
Definition: One revolution per minute is exactly 1/60 hertz.
Where it is used: Engine and motor speeds, hard drive and fan speeds, and centrifuge settings.
Hertz vs Rpm
The hertz is an SI unit while the revolution per minute is a specialized unit. That is why the factor between them is not a round number: the two systems were defined independently and only later tied together by exact agreement.
Frequently asked questions
How many rpm are in a hertz?
One hertz equals 60 rpm.
What is the formula to convert hertz to rpm?
Multiply the number of hertz by 60. To reverse it, divide by 60 instead.
How do I convert rpm back to hertz?
Divide by 60, which is the same as multiplying by 0.0166666667.
How many rpm are in 10 hertz?
10 Hz works out to 600 rpm.
How is the hertz defined?
Defined as one reciprocal second (s⁻¹). Named after Heinrich Hertz.
