How the Image Compressor works
Reduces image file size in your browser by re-encoding at a quality level you choose, with the original and compressed sizes shown side by side.
The image is drawn to a canvas and re-encoded at a lower quality setting. JPEG and WebP use lossy compression, discarding detail the eye is least sensitive to — which is what makes the large savings possible.

Things worth knowing
- Compression is lossy and cumulative. Re-compressing an already-compressed image degrades it further — always work from the original.
- WebP is typically 25–35% smaller than JPEG at equal quality and is supported by every current browser.
- Images are processed entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, which matters for anything private.
- Page weight is dominated by images on most sites, so this is usually the single largest Core Web Vitals win available.
