Favicon Generator
Make a favicon from an emoji or a couple of letters, then download ready-to-use PNGs.
How to use
- Type an emoji or one or two letters.
- Pick a background and text color, and toggle rounded corners.
- Download the 32px favicon and the 180px Apple touch icon.
How the Favicon Generator works
Produces favicon files at the sizes browsers and mobile platforms expect, from a single source image.
The source is resized to each required dimension on a canvas and exported as PNG. Different sizes serve different contexts — browser tabs, bookmarks, and home screen icons.
16×16 tab · 32×32 taskbar · 180×180 Apple touch icon · 192×192 and 512×512 Android
Worked example
A 512×512 square source produces the whole set without upscaling artefacts.
Things worth knowing
- Start from at least 512×512. Scaling down is clean; scaling up is not.
- Favicons must survive being 16 pixels wide. Detailed logos turn to mush — use a simplified mark or a single letter.
- Modern browsers accept PNG and SVG favicons; the legacy .ico format is only needed for very old Internet Explorer support.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add the favicon to my site?
Save the PNG and reference it with a link rel='icon' tag in your HTML head.
Can I use any emoji?
Yes — any emoji your device supports will render into the favicon.
Why has my favicon not updated?
Browsers cache favicons very aggressively. Hard-refresh, or append a query string to the favicon URL to force a re-fetch.
Do I need every size?
32×32, 180×180 and 192×192 cover the overwhelming majority of real usage.
