How the Markdown to HTML works
Converts Markdown into HTML for pasting into a CMS, email template or any editor that will not take Markdown directly.
Line-level patterns are matched and rewritten: hashes become heading tags, asterisks and underscores become emphasis, bracket-parenthesis pairs become links, and list markers become list items.
# H1 · **bold** · *italic* · [text](url) · `code` · - list item
Worked example
'# Title' becomes <h1>Title</h1>, and '**bold**' becomes <strong>bold</strong>.
Things worth knowing
- Markdown has no single standard. CommonMark, GitHub Flavored Markdown and older implementations differ on tables, line breaks and nested lists.
- GFM adds tables, strikethrough, task lists and autolinking, none of which are in the original spec.
- Conversion runs in your browser, so drafts and private notes stay local.
Frequently asked questions
Which Markdown features are supported?
Headings, bold, italic, inline code, links and bullet lists — the everyday essentials.
Is it processed privately?
Yes — conversion happens in your browser, nothing is uploaded.
Why did my single line break disappear?
Classic Markdown needs two trailing spaces or a blank line to force a break. GFM treats single newlines as breaks in some contexts.
Can I put HTML inside Markdown?
Generally yes — most parsers pass raw HTML through, though sanitising renderers may strip it.
